Autumn 2019

  • BAUHAUS

We were introduced to the Bauhaus period, its history, and some of the most famous artists and designers.

But the main project was to make a decoration for the party we were throwing on that friday.

My group made three huge banners with arduino motors rotating them in the air.

  • Textures, colours and mockups

During this course we were introduced to working with different textures and shapes, with a focus on describing the details.

We also made mock-up’s for the next course.

  • Wood and metal

This was the introductory course for wood and metal, our project was to make an organisational device that suited our personal needs. Mine therefore fit many differently sized objects and papers on the sides. It was also meant to use as little space as possible on the desk.

  • Lightfestival

This course was intended to give us a more accurate perspective on how light behaves under different conditions and with different materials. To understate it, it was quite exhausting. But I did learn a about a subject which I knew nothing about before. On top of that the perspective I had on work in terms of quantity V.S quality solidified, quality is by far the best focus to have for most things.

  • Organsik form

We were each given a piece of something human made and were given the task to merge them together in order to create a mould and some sculptural pieces. The main prerogative was to learn about the moulding techniques and different materials.

  • Space and design devices

This course focused on translating simple techniques to more complex spatial expressions. This was as well as drawing and visiting different public spaces in Bergen in order to analyse the details and visualise them through either drawing or collages.

  • Space and movement; “In between slices“

This course was our first concrete design course. We were tasked to create a apace for six people that would fit between two existing buildings. A “Skinny house“ as it is otherwise known. This was my first ever larger scale design. I Used Sketch Up, but if I were to do it over I would focus more on drawings.

  • Construction and design

This course was a bridge test, were we were to construct the strongest, yet simplest bridge possible. I first tried something very experimental, but due to time constraints I made this very simple and strong beam-bridge. The focus was mainly on experimenting with simple materials.

  • Form and shape

Through utilising the simplest of forms in order to create a spatial experience and composition we gained a different perspective on the elements that compose a space or building.

Spring 2020

  • “Krakkekurset”

Going into this course I had only ever made one piece of furniture before. It was quite interesting and challenging. Of course I had to involve some intricate detail I had no idea how to make, this time it was the joinery of the feat that crossed each other. I should also add that I did not need a stepping-stool (krakk) so I sneakily made it a pedestal.

  • Ceramics

This course was an exploration of clay and sculpting. I had a drawing of a cup I wanted to make for a while, it was technically challenging, and I probably enjoyed this course the most. It was more challenging than I anticipated so did not get to glaze the piece, it then got thrown away while the ceramics worksop was being cleaned out for the Christmas holiday. :(

  • “Ideal Village”

Another concrete interior design project, we were challenged to make a house with a m^2 of ca.25. This model was almost as ugly as the last, but slightly better, I chose to have the walls be 30cm (1:50) which made everything far wonkier than needed. The project in it self was large and encompassed a whole collective village with landscape. I might elaborate in the future with more pictures.

  • Archicad (23)

This is the CAD visualisation of the Ideal Village course, this is the first course done only during lock down, some tutoring was done through zoom, and the rest we had to figure out on our own. It was very daunting to be thrown out on the deep end like that, but it was ultimately quite fun, and very rewarding. Custom furniture was really hard to figure out, I barely did.

  • Fusion 360

This was the 3D model of the “stool“ (Pedestal) I have called it “Three stool”, which is very creative. I struggled a bit in the beginning, it was not an easy first time project, but we had some good guidance by Vera from Vera and Kyte. I made it in 3D drawing mode by measuring everything, which was quite uneven , and putting inn all the numbers etc… the point is, it is almost exactly the same as the one I made. Vera had a more efficeint method, but it became too uniform compared to the real object (hahah).

  • "Ertivalen"

The pea project…due to lockdown and the uncertainty surrounding survival rates and seriousness we dropped doing a bridge building course (1:1); and were made to “befriend a pea”. I brought the pea with me everywhere, we were best friends. I took it for a boat ride, had to fish it to the shore with a stick. To make it short: It became very philosophical and I spent the whole summer drilling holes through peas in order to make a DNA helix. It resembles a ladder due to the thread being too weak and I being too fed up with the project.

Autumn 2020

  • "Ertivalen"

Well, well, well, you can guess what this concerns. It is of course a pea, a chick pea, photoshopped onto what I believe is Benito Mussolini. It of course is a part of our exhibition about peas, or the power of the most insignificant. If Mussolini were a pea, would he have been taken seriously? (Also, it was very funny to us.)

  • Laser and fusion 360

We printed objects to keep us organised, and laser cut a board to hang it on. This particular object was made to keep a glue gun. It works all right, but I would tweak it if I had the time.

  • Form 2

The second course about space, shape and composition. This time the task was to choose an object to be inspired by. My object was a camera.

  • Bioregion, materialdesign

I really enjoyed this course, we explored wool and the different uses of it. My group, or duo, made wool and agar agar based plastic into different kinds of materials. We made many different variations, but the one depicted is probably the best.

  • Lighting, introduction

Lighting is something I became very interested in after this semester, and it is the interior element that I consider to be the most important. This is some fabric, a metal mesh, flashlights and red newspaper in a dark room.

  • Lighting design

The lighting fixture design here is a model which I chose to further develop during the next course. I was inspired by bouncing rocks on still water. I prefer even lighting that resembles a cloudy summer day.

  • “Ringninger”

“Ringninger” is the word for the rings that surround something that breaks the water surface. I used translucent plexiglass and a large metal sheet which I curved using an English wheel (not recommended for large sheets apparently). This was the most challenging course due to my inexperience and haunting optimism. But even though the fixture in it self ended up looking like a mess, the lighting it produces is actually the best lighting I have ever had. It hung in my bedroom made my mornings exponentially more pleasant. I wish it would fit in my current room, but ut is massive (1m in Diameter). I fit a Phillips Hue led strip coiled around in there and controlled it on my phone.

  • Colour, acoustics and scenography

Colours and acoustics are very important components to a space and can often be combined. We were introduced to the creation of atmosphere which is very apparent in scenography. The course included a lot of experimentation and a tour of Bergen with an acoustic focus.

Spring 2021

  • Form, and Dynamic form

This builds on the previous lighting courses, and combines it with colour and shape. A very interesting course that highlighted my inability to work a camera.

    The main focus was experimentation.

  • Colour & Ornamenting

    Colour & Ornamenting

Our first true large group collaboration project, our group worked really well together. We did many experiments and combined a lot of different techniques. The wall is the end result, and a bench.

  • "Cold as Snow"

We built a snow fort, this course forced us to pay close attention to space and sizing. We had to digg and shape everything including tunnels, domes and stairs. This picture is not very telling, but i like the shadows.

  • Fusion 360 and organisation

This course was done whilst we could not use the workshops, so I chose to experiment with the concept of organisation and modules. This is one of the models. It is shelving and a sofa, and could be a lot of other things.

  • Marken 37

This project was large and intricate, I took a conscious choice in the beginning by not in any way pretending to know about structural engineering beyond avoiding the absurd. My goal with the building was to make it feel as if you stepped into a fantasy world, packed with colours, shapes, and greenery. The task at hand was to make a place where youth could hang out and cultivate new friendships and hobbies.

  • Sitting Object

With the design that i finally settled on I wished for it to be experimental in every way possible since we dont often have this access to expertise, time and materials. My background in art inspired me to make a more sculptural object. From the shape, to use and colour the chair is an experiment (that I am still refining)

  • Digital weaving

This was a simple introduction course to digital weaving, including how to use the relevant software and tools.

Autumn 2021

  • Extreme Whether Rapport

Another far more challenging collaboration project, this time the group was rather split and had very different ideas of what we wanted.

  • Sauna Studio

This was another collaboration with four other people, we wanted to start a project of making a sauna for the school. This was my and one others suggestion. The sauna i on the water, it has a very organically shaped roof that can be sat on. The exterior is clad in shingles and has moss elements, this is environmentally friendly and can be sourced locally. The interior is composed of portable wooden furniture, and the oven is in the middle of the room. The model in the picture I made of clay and drew on top of in procreate.

  • Bunker renovation

This course was a Mock Exam and was massive. I also chose a very concept focused project. The concept was a rehabilitation centre for early drug addicts and people with mental illnesses. The center operates through teaching courses for free, having the patients help each other and being in charge of the kitchen and gardening with guidance of social workers. The project asks the question: “what would a rehabilitation center look like in a utopia?“

Spring 2022

  • Pandemic installation

This was a group project where we designed an installation for Alrek Helseklynge. We had a lot of practical and economic restrictions, so the installation ended up being rather subtle.

  • Bachelor's project: Social outdoor space

The bachelor’s project was unsurprisingly a difficult task, and the project I chose was a large one that regarded an outdoor space in a highly trafficked area. The location is Loddefjord, Bergen, and has no significant designed urban space besides playgrounds.

Social outdoor spaces

The concept for the project was to create a gathering place that could connect the water to the landscape, and consequently the community that lives nearby.

The structure is a looping dock-park made with shelter, experiences and wander in mind.

With the additional space for frequent mobility and in-place activity; by boat, bike, skateboard or by foot.

The structure’s path also moves in a way that leaves space between the users on a moderately busy day. The loop stretches out and towards the middle in three points so as to secure a distance between the sound of the cars and themselves. Two of the points are down by the water, to the left, it eventually dips into the water; the right side reaches up in order to serve as a diving point. The top point is far above the waterline in order to increase the ability of the user to enjoy the view and sun.

The Norwegian, and perhaps Scandinavian use of public space is often outdoors in the woods, where they seek solace with people they are comfortable with. Or out on the town where they can drink and have less restrained interactions with old and new people.

This space is created to facilitate a choice for the user. You can socialise with a large group, and retract to a different part when or if you wish.
